Musings on the future of museums and society from Elizabeth Merritt, founding director of the Center for the Future of Museums, an initiative of the American Alliance of Museums.

The International Coluncil of Museums was created in 1946 by and for museum professionals to offer a unique network of more than 35,000 members and museum professionals who represent the global museum community. It also provides a diplomatic forum made up of experts from 136 countries and territories to respond to the challenges museums face worldwide.

Through advocacy and excellence, the Alliance strengthens the museum community. They support 30,000 museums, individuals and companies by developing standards and best practices; providing resources and career development; and advocating for museums to thrive.

The Museum Studies Bibliographies contains bibliographic citations to information on the role and function, history and philosophy, and nature and structure of museums. Much of this information, drawn from all disciplines and functional perspectives, is contained in materials that are difficult to discover or appear in under-utilized formats.

The Getty Conservation Institute works to advance conservation practice in the visual arts, broadly interpreted to include objects, collections, architecture, and sites. It serves the conservation community through scientific research, education and training, model field projects, and the broad dissemination of the results of both its own work and the work of others in the field. In all its endeavors, the Conservation Institute focuses on the creation and dissemination of knowledge that will benefit the professionals and organizations responsible for the conservation of the world's cultural heritage.
