Chandler and Lutz - French/Spanish Crossroads - American Beach: Library
Reserves

Reserve Items

The library has several items that have been put on reserve for this class.

The first is American Beach by Russ Rymer. We have two copies of this text. From Barnes and Noble: "Through three connected lives in and around northeast Florida's black resort town of American Beach—an unarmed black motorist killed by a white policeman; the great-grandfather of Florida's first black millionaire, who lives on the beach with next to nothing; and prominent Harlem Renaissance writer Zora Neale Hurston—Rymer presents a vision of a nation where the futures of both races are as linked as their histories, where the lost record of heroic black enterprise and prominence offers a key to the struggles of every modern American" (American Beach: A Saga of Race, Wealth, and Memory," n.d).

Sunshine State, on the other hand, is moreso a mixture of history and personal drama: "A woman and her new husband returns to her hometown roots in coastal northern Florida, and must deal with family, business, and encroaching real estate development" ("Sunshine State," n.d.).

Both are available for 3-hour checkouts at the library. You can watch the DVD in the library's Small Viewing Room. To access these materials, please ask about them at the circulation desk.
