"The SIPRI Military Expenditure Database provides military expenditure data by country in the following three formats:

* in local currency, at current prices. 1988-2008
* in US dollars, at constant (2005) prices and exchange rates, 1988-2008
* as a share (%) of gross domestic product (GDP), 1988-2007

SIPRI military expenditure data is based on open sources only, including a SIPRI questionnaire which is sent out annually to all countries included in the database."
