Web of Science is a database made by Thomas Reuters co. that specializes in scientific research. Our coverage ranges from 2005-present.
1. When you are in Web of Science you can search by using their search bar. You can alter how you search by using the drop down menu to the right of the search bar.
2. Once you have a list of search results you are able to control how you see the results. You can choose if you want the most recently published, the most cited, how many times articles are used, and by the estimated relevance of the article for your search.
3. On the left of the page you will see a section labeled "Refine Results" these are also known as limiters. You can select the different options to narrow down your results to a more manageable number and to find only those articles relevant to your research.
4. When you click on an article title you will see the article's record. From here you have access to the Abstract (summarizes the article), the Keywords (how the article was found), direct access to their references, and you can see similar articles by click on "View Related Records."
Remember, research is a process and it takes practice. If you have any questions about using Web of Science ask a librarian and we will be happy to help you learn this database.
