Aperture is a nonprofit publisher that leads conversations around photography worldwide. From our base in New York, Aperture connects global audiences and supports artists through our acclaimed quarterly magazine, books, exhibitions, digital platforms, public programs, limited-edition prints, and awards. Established in 1952 to advance “creative thinking, significantly expressed in words and photographs,” Aperture champions photography’s vital role in nurturing curiosity and encouraging a more just, tolerant society.

The Atlanta Center for Photography (ACP) advances new perspectives in lens-based media from the American South. Through artwork commissions, community collaborations, and dynamic programs, ACP supports photography as an inclusive and transformational cultural force, positioning Atlanta at the forefront of contemporary lens-based practice and thought.

Established in 1987, Atlanta Photography Group (APG) is an artist-initiated 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization providing opportunities and support to the fine art photography community.

The International Center of Photography is the world’s leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture. Cornell Capa founded ICP in 1974 to champion “concerned photography”—socially and politically minded images that can educate and change the world. Through our exhibitions, education programs, community outreach, and public programs, ICP offers an open forum for dialogue about the power of the image.

The High Museum of Art began collecting photographs in the early 1970s, making it among the earliest museums to commit to the medium. With more than 8,500 prints, the Photography department comprises the Museum’s largest collection. It is particularly strong in American modernist and documentary traditions from the mid-twentieth century and in contemporary trends. The Photography collection maintains a strong base of pictures related to the American South. The High owns one of the largest collections of photographs of the civil rights movement and some of the country’s strongest monographic collections of photographs by Eugène Atget, Wynn Bullock, Harry Callahan, William Christenberry, Walker Evans, Ilse Bing, Leonard Freed, Evelyn Hofer, Clarence John Laughlin, Abelardo Morell, and Peter Sekaer.

The Museum of Modern Art began collecting photography in 1930, and today the Department of Photography’s holdings have grown to include more than 35,000 works, constituting one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary photography in the world. As diverse as photography itself, the collection includes work not only by artists, but also by journalists, scientists, entrepreneurs, and amateurs—from early daguerreotypes to the most recent works by emerging artists. The Department of Photography advocates for diversity and focuses on histories of modern and contemporary art from transcultural perspectives, engaging with topics that are of consequence today, including racial and social justice; indigeneity and decolonization; queer and intersectional feminist politics; the conditions of hypervisibility and surveillance; and the impact of images in the age of smartphones, AI, and social media.

The mission of the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego is to inspire, educate and engage the broadest possible audience through the presentation, collection, and preservation of photography, film and video. MOPA is one of only three museums in the nation dedicated solely to lens-based medium. Located in historic Balboa Park in the heart of San Diego, we offer an annual calendar of relevant, thought-provoking and engaging exhibitions, film festivals and lifespan-learning opportunities.
